Longest Night 2019
17th December 2019 – The Longest Night
‘He has come for such as us..’
Although Christmas is expected to be a time for rejoicing, it is also a time when uncertainties, fears and loss become magnified and sometimes almost too much to bear. This is when we need a safe place to reflect, pray and find comfort. All of which were offered at this deeply moving Longest Night service.
The choice of readings helped affirm faith, offer deliverance from suffering and create a sense of community to help dispel loneliness.
“It only takes a tiny chink in the darkness to let the light in’ said Rev. Rona, before inviting the congregation to light candles and place gold stars on an illuminated tree.
The service closed with a quote from C.S. Lewis offering hope to all:
“And as He spoke, He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them.’ (The Last Battle)
