House and Other Small Groups
A house group meets each Tuesday from 2-4.30pm at Kate Verschoyle’s house. The group is convened by Rosemary Stoughton and led by Michael Stoughton. The format is normally divided into two, opening and closing in prayer, the first part being led by one of the group and the second part by Michael. Then we close with a hymn followed by tea, biscuits and chat. The subjects are normally based loosely on the church calendar and recently included Advent, parables, baptism and the persecution of Christians. Contact details from Rosemary on 01483-828829 or rcostoughton@gmail.com.
Another House group meets on the second Thursday of each month at Robert and Gwenneth Avis's home. Led by Robert, it democratically chooses the subjects it wishes to think about. These have recently included a study of the Parables of Jesus and a debate about the violent bits of the Old Testament. We start discussions at 7.45pm prompt ending about 9.30-10 o’clock with coffee and biscuits. Contact Robert on 01483 575327
A Bible Book Club meets on the first Monday of the month at Barbara Lawrence’s home at 12 noon. We study a book (or part of a book if it’s long) with the aid of the Bible Society notes and then talk about what we have learned for about an hour. Drinks are provided but we chose to finish with a social time of ‘brought with us’ lunch. We are currently studying the beginning of Matthew’s gospel which is the Gospel for Year starting at Advent 2019.
