Men’s Fellowship Summer Ramble - July 2021
One Wednesday morning, late in July, the Men’s Fellowship Group donned our walking boots and set off to explore the Clandon Downs above our church. As we chatted amongst ourselves along the way, we soon left St John’s and Merrow behind us, and found ourselves beyond the golf course, deep in the peaceful, atmospheric trees of Wildwood.

Our walk through the wood was interspersed with most uplifting reflection stops, led by Revd Rupert Masters, who had accompanied us in a similar capacity to Wisley a few years ago. As you can imagine, reflection is thirsty work, and so we had a stop in the woods for coffee and biscuits; and we also worked up quite and appetite, so we then convened to The Bull’s Head in Clandon for a very good sandwich lunch.
Our final leg was across the lovely parkland of Clandon Park, to bring us back to St. John’s.
I could tell you that the sun shone as we wandered through the beautiful dappled light in the woods; but this is England in July! Fortunately we all had our waterproofs, and a wonderful time was had by all.
