Christian Aid at St John’s

A team of volunteers from St John’s usually carries out a house-to-house collection in Merrow in Christian Aid Week in May. With uncertainty over coronavirus restrictions, we limited fundraising this year (as with last year) to our church congregation.

This year we had the choice of three ways to give:

  • online with our e-envelope on the Christian Aid website, so that any donations are tracked to St John’s
  • by cash or cheque which are paid into Christian Aid’s bank account
  • by card with a payment device which Christian Aid has organised with Give Star.

Altogether with these three ways of donating, we have raised £826.34. This includes £137.27 gift aid. Thank you so much to all who have helped to raise this amount.

This year the focus is on helping people in Kenya to have access to water. Christian Aid estimates that nearly £600 is needed to pay for a skilled labourer to build an earth dam along with the cement needed for the construction and a pair of taps. So we have raised enough for about one and a half dams.

You can read more about Christian Aid on their website.

Hopefully, next year we’ll be able to run a house-to-house collection again by which we usually raise about £2,500. It will take place from 15th to 21st May 2022. If you would like to help with this, or would like more information, please contact Sara England on 01483 504205.
