Ideas and Resources for lockdown #3
Here we go again, lockdown #3 and all ages once again entering the household educational facility. It's a tough enough time for all of us dealing with the weight of the news and now we have to once again entertain, teach, care for and look after all ages all the time! Some of us will be looking forward to holding our families tighter and closer as we navigate this lockdown and some of us may be worrying about how on earth we will get from sunrise to sunset with maybe a spelling learnt along the way too. We are all navigating this storm together, whatever sea faring vessel we're in, and so I've pulled together a list of my go to resources and website, sorted by age/stage, if they are of any help at all.
Feel free to look at all or none (for some of us ideas are essential inspiration and for other they compound the stress - please don't let this list add to your stress or pressurise you. You are doing brilliantly!) If I can help further in any way please do get in touch!
Early Years
Exploring faith at home can be a daunting concept here are some great, simple, ideas that can be dropped into family life
Key Stage 1
5 minute Mum website - she'd been a star and created a blog post for each of the following:
- How do I structure the day?
- An ideas bank for primary years
- Virtual Play Date Games
- How to help all ages play together at home
Over the years I have collected crafts, ideas and resources on Pinterest boards. It's a great tool to search with. I've made them available to you to look and see if any of those crafts might help fill a slot in your day.
- Toddler Time - Perfect for 5 and under
- Activity Day - Slightly longer/more complicated. Great to do as a family.
- Messy Church - Great crafts based around exploring faith.
Key Stage 2
Harriet over at Toby and Roo crosses the primary ages with her list of resources and websites for self-isolation/lockdown. If you're feeling even remotely stuck for ideas this list is quite the inspiration for both home ed and also home based entertainment!
The website kiddy charts has a wealth of ideas and a lot of free printables to help have a look at this sheet of ideas

My friends up north have spent the last year creating a 'Faith &' podcast specifically designed for young people - find out more below!
The App Think Ninja has been created for 10-18yr olds aimed at empowering children and young people build resilience, manage their emotional health and reach their full potential. It's recently added a whole host of Covid specific resources.
Young Minds
Young Minds have published a lot of blogs for young people with advice for looking after yourself during the coronavirus outbreak. Some really useful ones are:
- What to do if you’re anxious about coronavirus
- Looking after your mental health while self-isolating
- Tips for creating a routine during self-isolation
- Looking after your mental health while studying from home
- How to look after your mental health in a difficult living environment
- Young people's self-care tips for self-isolation
- Tips for coping with OCD during the coronavirus pandemic
Difficult Conversations
As we navigate this time of uncertainty there may well be difficult conversations that need to be had with all ages within your household. A colleague of mine in another diocese has put together a great sheet with advice for talking to children about difficult situations.
I hope that these resources are useful and I will add to them as and when i come across other sites i can recommend. In the mean time stay safe and well and as always, please get in touch if you would like to!
