Review of the Men’s Fellowship visit to the Hogs Back Brewery

On August 19th the Men’s Fellowship enjoyed a guided tour of the Hogs Back Brewery, followed by pizza at the on-site bar and restaurant.

During the tour we were invited to sample 4 of the brewery’s products - no encouragement needed - to enjoy 2 of the session bitters, an IPA and even a lager!

Our entertaining guide explained that the brewery began operations in 1992 and beer uses malt, hops, yeast, and water to produce beers of quite different strength, taste and colour. Though still classed as a microbrewery they have the capacity to have 8 brews in production at a time, each providing 11,000 gallons. Brewing is environmentally friendly as the waste from the process can be used for fertiliser & animal feed – no waste.

The hop fields across the road are now a housing estate, but the brewery has an 8-acre site nearby which provides 70% of their requirements.

Another great social event enjoyed by all.
