St. John's Bell ringing to mark the Platinum Jubilee Weekend
The Merrow band were delighted to join with thousands of bell ringers at churches and cathedrals across the UK and the Commonwealth in celebratory ringing over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend.
On Thursday 2nd June between 7:52pm and 8:22pm (1952 to 2022) we rang rounds and call changes on St John’s bells – which were commissioned to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897 – and again on Friday 3rd June at 11.30am to coincide with the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s, the focus for collective bell ringing agreed by the Central Council of Church Bell ringers in collaboration with the Royal Household.
You may also have heard the sound of the bells of our ringing neighbours at West Clandon from 19:52 to 20:22 on Thursday evening and during the 3 hour-long peal performed there on the morning of Saturday 4th June.
Our ringing https://bellboard.uk/view.php?id=1519741 has been included in the record of all the performances marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year being collated on the Ringing World’s BellBoard website https://bellboard.uk/event.php?id=14894
