Scouts Carol Service 2019

1st Merrow Scout Group Carol Service 23rd December 2019

The first Carol Service held specifically for the Merrow Scout group was described as ‘an unqualified success’ by Scout Leader David Hunt. Attended by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, their families and friends, there was an atmosphere of joyous celebration, combined with a strong sense of community and coming together.

Led by Rev Rona and Rev Barry (dressed in his Scout Leader’s attire), the theme of light was woven throughout the service, with the symbolic lighting of four candles, signifying the patriarchs, the prophets, John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary.

Sitting on a floor cushion amongst the children, Rev Rona talked about Jesus as ‘the light of the world’. She then invited 12 children to come forward to light a candle for the month of their birth from January to December, bathing the church in gently glowing candlelight.

The service concluded with a rousing rendition of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, followed by hot chocolate and mince pies!
