Epiphany 2020

5th January 2020 - The Epiphany

‘When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy’

The visitation of Jesus by the Wise men from the East is often overshadowed by the events of Christmas. Yet epiphany should have a deep resonance for us all. The visitors brought gifts, they had journeyed over a great distance following their belief in the guiding star, and they were strangers in a foreign land.

Like, the shepherds who had come before them, they offered the Christ child their most precious gifts, then went on their way rejoicing but changed forever.

So at Epiphany, can we offer God what is most precious to us? And in the words of Christina Rosetti (The bleak midwinter) ‘Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.’
