Baptism - Lily May

Baptism into God’s ‘marvellous light’

Little Lily May Jean Booth was baptised on Sunday 8th December 2019 and welcomed into the church, in the joyful presence of her parents, godparents, family and friends. Rev Rona made the sign of the cross on Lily’s forehead using special oil which had been blessed by the Bishop, then baptised her with blessed water from the River Jordan, as a sign of a new beginning. A candle was lit to symbolise God’s call into his ‘marvellous light’, and encouraging her to shine as a light in the world.

The four godparents standing at the font voiced their hopes and wishes for Lily in emotional speeches and a poem. Lily appeared delighted by the occasion, looking at her surroundings with constant interest and smiling happily at those around her.

Lily’s mum, Hanna Booth said after the service: ‘‘thank you so much for the most perfect service, we couldn’t have wished for it to have gone better. So many people said how amazing and lovely it all was. Thanks again for a wonderful day.’
