Rector (position vacant)
Jacqueline Drake-Smith - our Stipendiary Curate
I came to Merrow in 2014 as a newly ordained curate having trained full-time at Ripon College Cuddesdon for two years, and was priested in 2015. The calling to ordained ministry came surprisingly for me after a ‘moment’ at the Cathedral’s Christmas Fair – I only went along to buy a Christmas card, and here I am! Prior to training, I was Churchwarden at St Francis’ Church Westborough, and I worked as a Personal Assistant to the Executive Director of the charitable non-governmental organisation, the New Economics Foundation. I was born and grew up in Guildford and my family all still live locally. I have two adult daughters, Nicola and Maria, and a delightful granddaughter, Ella.
Dermot Verschoyle - our curate (Ordained Local Minister)
I came to Merrow thirty years ago and have been involved in church life ever since. As an author and keen modern jazz fan, I enjoy the creative arts and contemporary ways to expose the gospels both in church and house groups. Married to Kate, a doctor and server, we have three boys Charlie, Ollie and Stu.
Diana Matthews - our "retired" curate (Honorary Assistant Priest)
I have worshipped at St. Johns’ since 1967 and was in ministry for 25 years, first as a pastoral assistant, then reader, then priest. I retired as a an Ordained Local Minister in November 2011. I am still very happy to help out when needed. I have three married children - Anna, Andy and Lucy and seven grandchildren.
