Wisley Pilgrimage

RHS Gardens Wisley – Pilgrimage in memory of Rev. Dermot Verschoyle

3rd May 2019

The pilgrimage was the brainchild of Dermot Verschoyle who was a regular visitor to Wisley with his friends and family. He found it one of his favourite environments where he could enjoy his passion for these peaceful and inspirational gardens. He enjoyed many hours soaking up the atmosphere and immersing himself in its inspirational sights, smells and sounds on offer. It was also these gardens where he studied for his degree course using the Ignatian Pilgrimage for his thesis.

He felt it would be an ideal location to run a Pilgrimage, suitable for the men of the parish. So the idea of “The BOYZ Wisley Pilgrimage” was born; Boyz being his favourite name for the church men from Merrow.

As his health failed, so the Boyz would have to enjoy it without him. His close friend Rev. Rupert Masters (Curate at Emmanuel Church, Guildford) was a worthy substitute, who led us with great thoughtfulness and aplomb.

On the 3rd May, fifteen of Merrow’s finest turned up to enjoy the fellowship and spiritual relaxation of what Wisley had to offer.

Thanks to Dermot’s inspiration, it was a great success and we are now planning the next event.
