Summer Fayre

St john's Summer Fayre - 9th June 2018

A lovely warm dry afternoon in a lovely garden.

David Pannell, a Trustee of Number 5, our chosen charity, told us a little about their work. It is a night shelter for the homeless of Guildford that can offer men and women a bed for the night, an evening meal and breakfast. They also have laundry facilities and counselling available. He then declared the Fayre OPEN.

Lots of people of all ages enjoyed a Saturday afternoon drinking tea or Pimms, and eating ice cream and cake. Face painting, fishing for ducks, treasure hunt, guess the number of sweets in the jar, pick a lolly, toys and a bouncy castle for the youngsters. Plants, clothes, cakes, books and one person’s bric-a brac is another person’s treasure. The brownies had a golden bucket, the scouts arranged to throw wet sponges at the Rector and there was a human fruit machine!!

The St John’s Pre-School, who are celebrating their 50th birthday this year, were there displaying photos from the past and offering craft activities. The children from Merrow C of E Infant School had designed a plate, to the theme of the royal wedding. A winner was chosen by those present at the fayre.

There was a picture matching quiz, easy if you’re a “sound of music” aficionado, and, of course, a raffle.

We were entertained by singing from members of a Gospel choir and their leader encouraged a lot of those present to join in - please see Rev Dermot’s letter with more about them.

An enjoyable afternoon for all!
