Mission and Outreach

The most visible work of the M&O committee is fundraising for various charities and our remit is wider than that – not simply to raise money for a charity but to highlight the work of various charities, be they small local ones, national or international. Hopefully it relates what we are doing to our Christian vocation to build God’s kingdom in the community and wider world as well as in St John’s.

We use the parish magazine and our Church and Centre notice boards to provide information about the charities, publicise our events and talks, and hope that we reach people in the community. We now also put publicity on St John’s Facebook page.

St John’s also gives regular support to the local food bank with volunteers and food donations.

We aim to keep a balance between international, national and local charities. If you would like to suggest a charity for future support, please let Barbara Lawrence (577164) know. If you are planning a special charitable effort yourself, please let us know so we can help and give you extra publicity. If you would like to donate to the Charity of the month, you can put donations in the church collection plate or give them into the Parish Office in an envelope. This should be clearly marked with the name of the charity. If the donation can be gift aided, the gift aid envelope needs the name of the charity PLUS the full printed name, signature and address of the donor.
