THE SEARCH FOR OUR NEW RECTOR

Here is our monthly update for you.

The following advertisement appeared in the Church Times on 21st and 28th April so, along with it’s publication on the Diocesan website, it should attract a number of people to apply. Applications have to be received by 18th May and interviews will be held on the 14th June.

for the post of

RECTOR
of the parish of St John the Evangelist, Merrow, Guildford

Situated to the east of Guildford under the North Downs, St. John’s is firmly established as a church in the liberal catholic tradition but yet open to exploring contemporary expressions of our tradition. Our Parish Development Programme in 2014 made us aware that we need help to deepen and strengthen our own faith; to reach out to the surrounding community; to engage with children and young families; and to enhance our sense of stewardship. 

We know anyone wanting to join us will be blessed with the basic building blocks of a passionate spirituality, a sense of the power of prayer and a love of people as individuals before God. We would like it especially:

  • If you felt yourself centred on the Eucharist but imbued with an evangelistic heart;
  • If you longed to nurture us to travel more confidently on our own spiritual journeys;
  • If you loved to encourage people to stand proud in their faith;
  • And could bring the experience to help us relate to the wider community.

The church was reordered only 2 years ago and our adjacent modern church centre provides a thriving service for God and the Community.

Appointment is subject to enhanced DBS disclosure.

 

The interviewing process is thorough. On the previous day, applicants “interview the parish”. They visit the church, the centre and the rectory. They meet the clergy, the parish administrator and others involved in running the church. They are hosted on a drive around the area to see the sights of Merrow. In the evening they are invited to an informal get together with the PCC where over refreshments they can get to know more about our church; and we about them.

The interviews the following day take about an hour for each applicant and will be conducted by a panel which will include the Patron, our two Churchwardens, a Bishop, and the Archdeacon, amongst others.
